During the ceremony at the Hall of State, he presented state decorations to individuals particularly distinguished for their contributions to the Polish diaspora, the promotion of Polish culture, and the strengthening of Polish-American relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the important highlights of the ceremony was the decoration of <strong>Fernando (Fred) Schmidt<\/strong> \u2013 the grandson of the eminent Polish scientist, <strong>Professor Jan Czochralski<\/strong> (the inventor of the Czochralski method, which forms the basis of modern silicon and semiconductor production).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fred Schmidt <\/strong>was awarded the <strong>Knight\u2019s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland<\/strong> for his outstanding contributions to the development of international cooperation in the field of technology and creativity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>A video from the award
