On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, the Parliament of the Republic of Poland hosted the ceremonial opening of an exhibition commemorating the 140th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Jan Czochralski – an outstanding Polish chemist and metallurgist, the creator of the method for growing single crystals of silicon, which became the foundation of modern electronics. His discoveries enabled the development of microprocessors, computers, and smartphones that we use daily.
The event was initiated by MP Iwona Kozłowska, with the exhibition panels prepared by the Kcynia Municipal Office. During the opening, a letter from the Speaker of the Parliament, Szymon Hołownia, was read, highlighting the professor’s contributions to global science and his rehabilitation by the Polish Academy of Sciences in the 21st century. Speeches were delivered by, among others, Senate Speaker Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, Deputy Minister of Science Prof. Marek Gzik, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Maciej Lasek, and Kcynia Mayor Mateusz Stachowiak, who called for the establishment of a science center named after Czochralski.
The ceremony was attended by the professor’s family members, Danuta and Sylwester Czochralski, MPs Aleksandra Uznańska-Wiśniewska, Magdalena Łośko, Piotr Gliński, Paweł Szrot, Piotr Kowal, Senator Stanisław Pawlak, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Deputy Voivode Piotr Hemmerling, scientists Prof. Bogusław Buszewski, Prof. Adam Gadomski, Prof. Michał Leszczyński, Prof. Tadeusz Kulik, Prof. Anna Pajączkowska, and a delegation from the Kcynia Municipal Office, including Mayor Mateusz Stachowiak, Chairman of the Municipal Council Zbigniew Witczak, Director of the Jan Czochralski Primary School in Kcynia Aleksandra Doiczman, Deputy Director Natalia Żychlińska-Nowakowska, Michał Poczobutt, Jan Kurant, and Anna Duda-Nowicka.
